# Create A Placeholder Page 2019

Sometimes you just want to have a landing page for the website when visitors first start arriving but hide the rest of the website until you are ready for its Grand Reveal.

This can be done using a placeholder page and the following steps:

# Create a New Page

Create a new page but be sure the Add to menu... checkbox is not checked (see Add A Page 2019 for more details).

# Add Content To The Page

The new page will be blank, except for template elements. You can add text and images to this page to tell your bidders about the upcoming event. See Old Content Blocks for examples of these elements.

# Make the Placeholder Page the Home page

To ensure visitors/bidders see your placeholder page when they go to the auction website, click on the Set as home page button at the bottom of the editor sidebar.

# Hide the menu

The menu element will typically be shown on all pages.

Until you are ready for the site to be public, you will want to hide the menu element from the placeholder page. This can be done by setting its visibility to Registered users only (see User Accounts for more details).

Hover the mouse pointer over the Menu element and click on its Settings link.

Choose the Appearance pane and select the Visibility tab. Choose Registered users only from the Visible to drop-down selector.

# Save Settings

After editing the settings, click Save to continue making changes to the element, or click Save & close to save the element and close its Settings window.

Click Cancel to not save any of your changes and close the Settings window.

# Revealing the site

When you are ready for the whole site to be published and visible to your visitors/bidders, you can undo the above steps with the following:

  1. Open the page you want to be the home page and click on Set as home page.
  2. Open the settings for the menu and change the visibility setting back to Everyone.
  3. Optional, add the "Placeholder" page to the menu if wanted.
