# How To Create A New Website (archived)
A quick passthrough example creating a website using the Basic: Donations Only template.
When you first create your auction event, if you want to have an auction website you will need to scroll down to the bottom of the main Auction Dashboard and click on Website. This will open the Website dashboard. You would also follow this menu entry to see the existing website settings.
You can also click on the green Auction web site block on the right side of the main Auction Dashboard quick reference blocks to access the Website Settings dashboard.Auction Dashboard Website
# Website Settings
If you have not created a website for the auction you will be presented with a selection of website templates to choose from. To create your website simply click on the Select this template button in its preview card.
There are many website "templates" to choose from currently (and we are always adding more), once you have created an auction website you would need to delete it to choose a different starting template.
Clicking on the Select template button will also pop up a confirmation window where you will need to click on Continue to finish creating your new website.
You also have the option to use the Preview template button to view an auction website using the template and our standard "demo" content. Clicking on the Preview template button will open a new tab in your browser.
# Define the Website Address
After the website has been created you will still need to set its "address". Click the "pencil" icon to edit the Event Website ID address field.
Website Addresses should only use letters, numbers, and hyphens (
-). The use of any other type of "special character" or "punctuation" could potentially make your auction website unreachable.
The Event Website ID is the portion of the URL after
www.charityauction.bid/. In this case, the default Preferred Domain is being used. There are more auction domains you can choose from, see Set The Website Address for more information on these options.
Generally, your guests should be able to easily recognize the address being connected to your organization or to the current fundraiser event.
Make certain to click the "checkmark" icon to save the Event Website ID you entered.
# Website Editor
Opening the Website Editor from the auction website.
Once the website has been created you will most likely want to make some modifications to best suit your organization's needs. This leads to the next step of Opening The Website Editor. From the Auction Website itself, if you see the green edit icon in the lower-left corner, you can click on it to open the Website Editor. This is one of the easiest ways to enter "edit" mode for the auction website.
