Allow Multiple Quantities

There are a number of ways to set up items to allow selling multiple quantities of the same item.

The three item fields that are relevant are:

  • Item Type: is this a For Sale item or an auction item
  • Quantity: the actual number of the item you have available
  • Multiple Winners: for auction items should multiple winners be allowed

The following examples show how to set up the item for different scenarios.

Auction Tickets

To sell auction tickets for a fixed price with no particular limit on the number of tickets you are planning on selling, you can create the item as follows:

  • Item type is set to For Sale
  • Value is set to the price of the ticket
  • Quantity is not specified (0 or blank)

Purchases are recorded using the Purchase tab of the record bid page, see For Sale Items for more details.

A Dinner Party

For a dinner party with space for 12 guests and fixed price seats at a fixed price, you can create the item as follows:

  • Item type is either silent, live, or online as appropriate
  • Value is set to the seat price
  • Buy-It-Now and starting bid are both set to the seat price
  • Multiple Winners is turned on

If you want to allow bidding for the individual seats, rather than fixed prices sales, then see the example below.

3 Sets of Gift Certificates

You have three identical restaurant gift certificates to be offered in the auction.

How this is set up depends on how you want the bidding for these items to work.

Fixed Price

If you are selling gift certificates at a fixed price, then treat them the same as the dinner party example shown above.

Independent Bidding

If you want to allow independent bidding, then you should create 3 items (12 items for the dinner party example):

  • Item type is either silent, live, or online
  • Value is set to the gift certificate value
  • Starting bid, bid increment, and Buy-It-Now can be specified as you like
  • Multiple winners is turned off

Once the first item is created you can click Duplicate Item on the Item Details page to quickly create an identical item, which you will just need to assign a different item number to.

It can be helpful in these cases to assign related item numbers, using letter combos if you prefer, such as 123A, 123B and 123C etc.

This method produces three separate bid sheets.

Single Bidding Process

If you want to have a single bid sheet for each item and award the certificates to the top three bidders, then set it up this way:

  • Item type is either silent or live
  • Value is set to the gift certificate value
  • Starting bid and bid increment can be specified as you like
  • Multiple winners is turned on

If you set the Bid Sheets to show the bid amount for each row, then the system can generate Bid Sheets with each row repeated the set number of times.
